Tad offtopic, but bookrelated.

Hey guys!

I am writing to see if you guys can help out a group of people to win a contest in ideablob. The winner gets 10000 to help launch their idea. As book lovers, I am sure that you guys are aware of the literacy problem that american confronts, and this group is trying to launch a a program to help conbat that amongst at risk girls. The project is called Girl Talk: Read to Achieve and you can help make it a reality by registering (it takes no less than a minute, I swear!) and voting at http://ideablob.com/ideas/2431-Girl-Talk-Read-to-Achieve?filtered_view=true

Thanks,

Rayando el Sol

Would anyone like to nominate the next book to read? I'm really in need of a good read!
Do you think it would be better to do away with 'Book of the Month' and just have a book that we're all reading, then when it seems most people are finished we could move on to another? What could we call this... "book of the moment"? Any suggestions?

The Time Traveler's Wife

Wow. I've finally finished the book. I didn't start in January, because I was snowed under. For the last few days I couldn't put it down. My lord, I sobbed my little heart out for most of the latter half of the book. Enjoyed it so much but it evoked so much emotion that I don't think I could give it a second read anytime soon!

The film comes out in November!

Feb. 1st, 2008

Can I just check if anybody actually read the book for January? I've had a couple of messages from people saying they've not finished or just started, which is perfectly understandable, believe me! I just wondered if people are actually 'playing along'?

What else have you all been reading of late?

Dec. 29th, 2007

Since there haven't been any other norminations can I assume that The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger will be our book for January?

January's Book of the Month

Please reply to this post with suggestions for January. A poll will follow in the next week.

Nomination:
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
Audrey Niffenegger's innovative debut, The Time Traveler's Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Thank you.

Hello all!

I am only 3/4 of the way through Wicked, having received my copy last Friday.

I think we'll skip a 'December Book of the Month' since it's a very busy time for most people. Hope that's ok?

Greetings & Salutations!

Hi all. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Beth. I'm 31 years old. Working nearly 8 years as a bookstore manager has given me a vast & eclectic collection of books. My favorite type of book is historical fiction that normally has a female character. I also enjoy fantasy, true crime, biographies, art books & I eat up books on Roman History. My secret obsession is kids books.

Anyway...I've babbled enough. I look forward to reading next month's selection with you all!
